Three of the most recognizable names in modern human history will honour the tremendous legacy of Calgary’s current TELUS World of Science facility and help the organization transition to the New Science Centre, which is being constructed right now on the northwest corner of Deerfoot Trail and Memorial Drive.

The Einstein and Darwin exhibitions, which were both developed by the American Museum of Natural History, are being combined for the first time ever. They will appear at the TELUS World of Science’s downtown Calgary location from October 9, 2010 to January 3, 2011. A month later, Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition will begin a five-month stay from February 6, 2011 to June 27, 2011. Titanic will be the last exhibition to grace the halls of the existing location, which will be closed in anticipation of the opening of Calgarys’ New Science Centre in Fall 2011.

“We have now begun our final year of operations in our existing location and our intention is to end our stay here on a very high note. By hosting the Einstein and Darwin exhibitions together – for the first time ever – we are offering Calgarians and Southern Albertans a critically important view of arguably the two most influential scientists in history,” said Jennifer Martin, president & CEO of TELUS World of Science – Calgary. “Following Einstein & Darwin, the Titanic: Artifact Exhibition will be a spectacular finale to our 43 year run in this facility.”

The Einstein exhibition illustrates how Albert Einstein’s Special Theory of Relativity paved the way to unleashing atomic energy; how his work on the photoelectric effect led directly to the development of vacuum tubes and integrated circuits – and eventually to the computer revolution; and how his explanation of Brownian motion created a new understanding of the size and shape of molecules, which ultimately helped to unlock the secrets of DNA.

The Darwin exhibition offers an engaging and enlightening exploration of the extraordinary life and mind of Charles Darwin, whose curiosity, observations and discoveries nearly 150 years ago forever changed the perception of the origin and nature of our own species, as well as myriad other species on this planet, and launched modern biological science.

When combined in Calgary, the Einstein and Darwin exhibit will introduce people to two of the most creative, imaginative and innovative minds in history.

Titanic: The Artifact Exhibit is a compelling historical exhibition of actual artifacts recovered from the wreckage of the famous cruise ship, which sank after striking an iceberg on April 14, 1912. The exhibit takes visitors on a journey back in time, allowing them to experience Titanic like never before. This blockbuster exhibition has been seen by millions of people in major cities around the globe, making it one of the most popular attractions in the world.

In Fall 2011, the new TELUS World of Science – Calgary will open on an 18-acre site just north of the Calgary Zoo. The new TELUS World of Science will be Canada’s first new science centre in more than 25 years. It will be a different kind of science centre, inspiring people of all ages to tap their creativity and imaginations, and helping to define our city as the innovation and imagination capital of Canada. No other attraction in Canada will offer the kinds of mindexpanding experiences available every day at the new TELUS World of Science – Calgary.
